Lately a lot of people have been asking me about what podcasts I listen to so I thought I’d write a post about some of my favorites.
I knew what Podcasts were but never really paid much attention to them until I got an iPhone and had the Podcast App. When I was living in California I had a three hour bus ride everyday to and from work and this was such a great discovery for me. I thought “Finally something to do on the bus that won’t make me sick!” and was really excited.
Other than listening to podcasts on the bus, they are really great to listen to while cooking. I also found it really relaxing to lay down with my eyes closed, listen to a podcast and really get into what the host is saying. It’s a nice hour long escape.
You can find most podcasts on iTunes, the podcast app on iPhone, or on the podcast website itself.
There are so many podcasts out there on every subject and I obviously can’t get into everything or else I could go on forever. Here are just a few that I really like to listen to on a regular basis.
The Jillian Michaels Show (Jillian Michaels and Janice Ungaro)
Not only did I learn how funny Jillian Michaels can be but this podcast is also really informative about current times in fitness, nutrition and much more. I love how she always devotes a section of the podcast to phone calls and emails from listeners.
The Nerdist (Chris Hardwick)
The Nerdist is hosted by Chris Hardwick and is super hilarious. I will often turn to it when I need a laugh. On most episodes Chris will interview a celebrity and it always ends up taking weird twists and turns ending on really off topics that are far out there and just plain funny. It really shows you a different side of celebrities that you don’t really see in everyday interviews.
Design Matters (Debbie Millman)
Design Matters is one of the first Podcasts that I discovered right away. Debbie Millman is the host and each episode is an in depth interview with someone in the design world. It’s always really interesting to hear ideas and what’s going on with some of todays top innovators in the design world. I highly recommend this one to any designers out there.
Smodcast (Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier)
Smodcast is a comedic podcast. Sometimes they will have guests on and sometimes it’s just the hosts talking about various subjects. You might remember Kevin Smith from “Jay and Silent Bob” or “Clerks”. I got into this podcast because I saw Kevin talk on a few panels about online media and thought he had some interesting things to say on the subject. If you are looking for a laugh this is a good place to start.
Ted Talks (various)
Who doesn’t love TED Talks? There is always something of interest to anyone and everyone. Isn’t it amazing what our fellow human beings can come up with? This podcast is various people talking about their innovative ideas on every different subject there is.
Shondaland Revealed (Betsy Beers)
Hosted by Executive Producer of Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, and How to Get Away With Murder. This podcast includes interviews and takes you behind the scenes with the stars, creators, writers etc from all of the Shondaland shows. How can you not love Shondaland?
